Limescale problem? No need to panic! Here are some ways you can keep it under control
If you live in a hard water area, you may already be familiar with the milky deposits that blight your shiny taps and clog up your kettle. Read on to find out a little more about the dreaded calcium carbonate – that’s the fancy name for limescale – and what you can do to prevent it.
What is it and where does it come from?
When rain water passes through soft rock in the ground – like limestone and chalk – it picks up minerals that turn it into ‘hard water’. Despite the UK water authorities’ best efforts at filtering the water, it still ends up in millions of our homes.
Limescale rears its ugly head as dirty, chalky residue that forms wherever water collects in your home. This can be on or around taps, in toilets, in sinks and baths, on shower screens and even on mirrors. We’ve all seen it, and we’ve all spent numerous hours trying to make it disappear!
Why is it bad?
