How to Clean Bathroom: A Step-by-Step Guide

Bathrooms are the most important place in a household as they enable us to maintain personal hygiene. Therefore, they must be the cleanest space in your house, school, office, or elsewhere.

Because of moisture, dirt, dust, grime, and grease, the bathroom can easily become a breeding ground for germs, bacteria, fungi, and unwanted odors. However, keeping it in top shape and transforming it into a wellness oasis is easier if it is regularly cleaned.

Some bathrooms aren’t used much and only require dusting, while others require heavy-duty cleaning due to regular and frequent use. Irrespective of your bathroom cleaning situation, it doesn’t have to be an exhausting task that we often make it out to be.

Fret not! The bathroom cleaning process isn't as complicated as you might think — follow the expert recommendations about how to clean your bathroom to make every inch of it sparkling and germ-free.

How to properly clean a bathroom: a step-by-step guide

Distributing the bathroom cleaning job into parts and catering each with the right tools and techniques can make the process much easier.

1. Clear the surfaces

Clearing the surfaces by removing all the items from their usual spots will make cleaning easier. This will also make your bathroom look bigger and give you ample space to move around freely.

Pick up towels, rugs, or laundry from the floor and relocate shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, and other products from countertops, showers, or the tub to the hallway.

Lastly, remove the trashcan and any decorative items from the bathroom.

2. Dust and/or vacuum from top to bottom

Remove dirt, dust, and debris from the surfaces so cleaning these objects becomes easier. Grab a duster or microfiber cloth and begin with the topmost level that needs dusting.

Dust off light fixtures, exhaust fans, shower rods, towel bars, window sill, door frames and trim, baseboards, top of the toilet tank, shelves, counters, and cobwebs from the bathroom corners.

Finally, thoroughly sweep or vacuum the floor to collect all the loosened dirt, dust, and debris that may have accumulated.

3. Scrub sink, shower, and bathtub

Use Harpic Bathroom Cleaner Citrus and a non-abrasive and soft-bristled nylon scrub brush to gently scrub and loosen the dirt, dust, and grime accumulated on the sink, shower, and bathtub surfaces. Lastly, rinse thoroughly to remove all remaining dirt and cleaning product residue.

4. Tackling other surfaces

Next, wipe down faucets, fixtures, towel racks, shelves, baseboards, mirrors, glass doors, blinds, and windowsills using microfiber cloth and Harpic Bathroom Cleaner Trigger to remove any accumulated dirt or dust.

Work in sections from the top of the room to the bottom and left to right. Remember to switch sides on your clothes and buff them to a dry shine.

5. Cleaning the toilet

Pour Harpic PowerPlus Original by gently placing the nozzle under the toilet bowl rim and squeezing the bottle. Let the cleaning solution cling to the toilet bowl for 10 minutes before scrubbing with a soft-bristled toilet brush to remove dirt, dust, limescale, and rust, then flush.

Once you have finished the toilet bowl, open the toilet and use the Harpic Bathroom Cleaner Trigger to spray down the inside of the lid and the top and bottom of the seat.

Last, for good measure, give the toilet one last dry wipe down. Then, spritz the outside with Harpic Bathroom Cleaner Citrus and wipe down from top to bottom. You will work from the least dirty to the dirtiest parts of the toilet.

6. Mop the Floors

Dilute 1.5 capfuls of Harpic Bathroom Cleaner Citrus in a half bucket of water (4 cups) and follow the steps below to clean the bathroom floors:

  1. Dip your mop into the bucket containing the cleaner solution.

  2. Remove the excess water by squeezing it.

  3. Wipe the bathroom floors using the mop.

  4. Don’t forget the space around and behind the toilet's base, where dust and dirt tend to collect.

  5. After cleaning, allow the floor to dry, and then put back the trash can and your recently washed rugs.

7. Disinfect where necessary

Now that you are finished with the cleaning, it is time to disinfect high-touch areas and particular soiled spots such as cabinets, faucet handles, door knobs, light switches, electronic appliances such as hand dryers, grab rails, and more using Harpic Bathroom Cleaner Trigger.

8. Putting the items back

Replace all items you removed to their original place; wiping them is necessary as you go.
